Hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Cat Dead, Details Later are a relatively new horrorpunk band that has just released a new EP entitled Your Love Is My Nightmare. I actually discovered this band while combing through the horrorpunk tags on Bandcamp and as soon as I saw the band’s name I knew I had to check them out. Having a name that is obscure enough that most of the general population won’t catch but any hardened horror fan can’t do anything but love was what pulled me in. If you don’t get the reference, you need to revisit one of the greatest horror films of the ’80s to catch it. Or, you can listen to the sample that begins the album.

As I mentioned, the album begins with a sample that references the band name, then goes right into a guitar riff starting the album strong. Moving on to Shandalira we are introduced to the full sound of the band in full force. The song comes blasting at you leading to arguably the catchiest chorus on the EP. Even though the song is only shortly longer than 2 minutes, it feels like it is a lot longer, and I mean that in the best way possible.

Following with Some Thing Aren’t Meant To Dream / Fears And Mirrors the album moves in a bit of a different direction. The guitar and vocals seem a little harsher than they were on Shandalira while also remaining true to their sound, which works. At this point it is interesting to note that they kept two songs into one on the track listing, but when you listen to it the two songs mesh well together making you understand the band’s decision to keep the two songs meshed together on the album.

The final part of the album is a two part song reflecting the title track. Starting with Your Love Is My Nightmare Part 1 – Dead! The album slows down into almost an Earth Angel style ballad. While Shandalira shows the band at their best with a quick and heavy pace, Your Love Is My Nightmare Part 1 shows that the band could have an easy future with reflective ballads. I would go as far as to call this one of my favorite ballads that I have ever heard, regardless of genre. It’s just one of those songs that digs its claws into you and refuses to let go. Then it segues its way into You Love Is My Nightmare Part 2 – Die! where the band moves back into the faster punk sound as it continues the story started in the first part of the song. If you’ve ever been in a relationship that goes wrong and you have a morbid personality than you will no doubt relate to both parts of Your Love Is My Nightmare! It has certainly made its way into regular rotation on my playlists, and once you hear it there is very little doubt that you will do the same. Both parts just work well together.

You can check out Cat Dead, Details Later on their Facebook page and be sure to grab yourself a copy of Your Love Is My Nightmare on their Bandcamp Page where it is listed under the Name Your Price to grab it! Be sure to support the band and the horrorpunk genre, and as always, Long Live The Horror!
