I only discovered By The Graveyard Tree a few months ago, but between their awesome EP Souls (Stereo Terror review here) and becoming social media friends with the majority of the band, they are so infectious and awesome that you cannot help but love them and their music. When I realized that it had been awhile since the last Deadhouse Interview I decided to make the offer to front woman of the band Natasha Feratu for an interview, which was quickly accepted and then just as quickly turned into a full band interview! So without further a due, let’s get to the interview with the amazing By The Graveyard Tree!
Who are you?
We are By The Graveyard Tree – an energetic, female fronted four piece horror punk band from the DC area. Our members are Natasha Feratu (shocks with the vox), Megan Mortis (guitar slastress), RazorWire Thunderblades (thunder slinger) and J-Beard (skin beater).
What first got you interested in the horror genre as a whole?
We all grew up on horror movies, punk rock and rock and roll so it’s just ingrained in our beings at this point. BGT is what oozes from our creative pores.
What are some of your favorite horrorpunk bands?
Hmmm…. Calabrese, Darrow Chemical Company, Blitzkid, Silent Horror, The Big Bad, Shadow Windhawk And The Morticians, The Other, The Zombie Mafia, The Jasons and The Renfields are just a few. There are SO many talented bands out there!
What about bands that don’t fall under the horrorpunk umbrella?
The Banner, Hank III, Lana Del Rey, Dax Riggs, The Koffin Kats, The Cramps, Sleep and Social Distortion. Again…. SO many haha.
What are your favorite horror movies?
The porno your mom did!
What are some of your favorite non-horror movies?
The porno we did!
How did By The Graveyard Tree first come together as a band?
Two of us drove and one took the metro.
If you could have any horrorpunk figure from the past of present collaborate on a future BGT album, who would it be?
Argyle Goolsby…. 90’s Danzig…. or The Doyle bobblehead!
What do you have planned for horror fans in the future?
Music, live shows and videos. Sexual tension….. and offending people.
Now for free reign, anything you want fans of the site to know about?
We love playing live and we want to see more girls and women out there playing with us. We have a ton of upcoming shows!!
