The Deadhouse

The Jasons have been kicking around the scene for about half a decade, and sadly for several reasons have been labelled a gimmick band. Whether it be the look, the insistence on working their songs around themes from the Friday The 13th series, or even the masterfully done Get Sued album where they blended Ramones songs with Misfits lyrics, the band has never really been given the credit they rightfully deserve.
Being lucky enough to have struck up a friendship with band members Markky Karloff and Kari Frankenstein, I was excited to check this album out and see how it follows up on what they did with Revenge, and I have to say, Why Even Ask? is a great follow-up, showing a lot of growth while retaining what made these guys special in the first place.
The Devil’s Sons are a psychobilly band out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They are fronted by Brad Graves on guitar/vocals with Fernando De Los Santos on upright bass/backing vocals and Johnny Crash on drums. Their most recent EP Black Moonshine was released in fall 2018 through Batcave Records and this one sure is a banger!
The Lycotones is the brain child of Mikey Garou, and Monster Hop! is the band’s first official release. If you’ve read my reviews in the past of albums that could fall in the doo-wop style (especially those from friends of The Deadhouse The Mutant Members Only Club and The Bastards) you’ll know it’s very hit or miss for me personally, so how does Monster Hop! work out?

While Gallowmere have never been officially reviewed on this site, they did contribute a track to The Deadhouse Presents Cuts From The Slab and have long been a favorite around these parts. After a long layoff that seemed like forever, the band is back with a new album featuring 7 tracks of blistering horrorpunk. From The Forested North is the band’s second official release, in addition to a live album and a few sporadic singles, and the band takes their best shot with this one
This one has been a long time coming. It was last summer when I first interviewed Argyle Goolsby before his performance with the Roving Midnight in Toronto where we discussed his plans to release a studio recording of the Hollow Bodies acoustic side of his music.
A sad reality of the horror music scene is that many bands come and go on a very frequent basis, with more bands releasing an album or two then disbanding then bands with a level of staying power. Sadly, the band formerly known as JasonXVoorhees, who changed their name to simply JXV before the release of what will now be the band’s swan song. Ritual may only be eight tracks long, but it hits like a ton of bricks.
Disaster and bandmate Jimmy Moon spent the better part of the past two years working on We Are The Filthy Ones, aiming for it to be the heaviest album they could while staying within their acoustic horrorpunk sound. So, how does the album come across with this change in sound direction for the band?

Whether it be through his early work in The Texas Drag Queen Massacre through his solo work which has had a rocky path over the years, Acoustic Nightmares Vol. 1 is essentially a love letter to fans of the man’s career. Including songs reaching back to 2008’s TDQM release Sick Little Things, there is nothing left unturned for this album.

Running From Daylight just happen to be based out of London, Ontario, which also happens to be my hometown and the base of The Deadhouse itself. So of course I have to check them out and see what they have to offer to our beloved genre.
It’s finally come. After what seemed like an eternity for many fans, the first true full-length solo album from Argyle Goolsby has dropped. The hype machine for this album has been strong, with The Deadhouse fully participating. Devil In The Belfry breaks into the scene like a bat (devil?) out of Hell with their debut album, Wandering Alone. This three-piece horror punk band from New Jersey blessed us with thirteen jammin’ tunes that don’t leave anything to be desired.
